CatalogGuard
A safety net for your Shopify product catalogue. Every night, and whenever you ask, CatalogGuard takes a snapshot of your products, variants, collections, metafields, image references and inventory quantities. It shows you what changed between snapshots, says up front exactly what it can and cannot put back, and restores any change with a preview first, a check of every write, and an undo.
What it does
- Snapshots every night at 2:00 in your store's time zone and on demand, taken through Shopify's bulk operations so a large store costs one job, not thousands of calls.
- Coverage page: a table of every field captured, whether it can be restored, and what the app does not capture, shown before your first snapshot and linked from every restore.
- Timeline: per product, what changed between snapshots.
- Restore: choose a snapshot, a scope (one product, a list, a collection, the whole catalogue) and the fields; see the diff first; guardrails hold a restore that would touch too much of the store; every write is read back; the restore is itself snapshotted and can be undone.
- Safe mode leaves alone anything you changed again after the latest snapshot and names it; force puts every difference back.
- Deleted products and variants are recreated from the snapshot with new ids, and listed as recreated; the page says what cannot come back (order history links, old ids).
What it does not do
It never deletes anything: a product, variant, stocked location or metafield that exists now and not in the snapshot is listed and left. It does not touch themes, navigation menus, orders, customers, discounts or files, and never reads customer or order data. Images are kept by reference, not as files.
